Johnny Max is an acclaimed Canadian blues singer, songwriter, radio host, and music producer with more than 30 years of experience in the music and entertainment industry. A passionate advocate for blues and soul music, he has dedicated his career to performing, promoting, and sharing the music he loves with audiences around the world.
Since 1995, Johnny has been the charismatic frontman and lead vocalist of the Johnny Max Band, one of Canada’s established blues acts. With eight albums to his credit, including two JUNO Award-nominated releases, A Lesson I’ve Learned (2008) and It’s A Long Road (2010), he has built an impressive reputation on the Canadian and international blues scene. His latest album, Johnny Max & His So Called Friends (2025), showcases his signature blend of blues, soul, and rhythm & blues, a style he proudly calls Roadhouse Soul.
Beyond his achievements on stage, Johnny has an extensive background in radio broadcasting. From 1999 to 2018, he hosted the popular programs Sunday Night Soul and Sunday Morning Soul, which were syndicated across 14 radio stations in Canada and the United States. He also founded and operated Blues Radio Canada, an initiative that brought together blues programs and broadcasters to promote Canadian and independent blues artists.
Throughout his career, Johnny has also been actively involved in organizing and producing major music events, including the Toronto Blues Festival at the Canadian National Exhibition. He has served as an MC and host at numerous festivals, combining his engaging personality with his deep knowledge of blues music.
Today, Johnny Max brings his decades of musical experience and infectious enthusiasm to At The Crossroads, the internationally syndicated blues radio show originally created by Brant Zwicker in 2003.
As the show’s host, Johnny continues its tradition of celebrating the very best in blues music, introducing listeners to outstanding new releases, established legends, and emerging artists from across the globe.
With his unique perspective as both a performing musician and an experienced broadcaster, Johnny Max offers listeners more than just great music — he brings the stories, the passion, and the authentic spirit of the blues to every show.
