Canadian roots, rock and soul band Bywater Call are back with “No One Else”, their third studio single of 2026 and the first major statement from their forthcoming fourth studio album, Broken Souvenirs, scheduled for release on July 29, 2026. The single was released on May 13, 2026, and is already available across streaming platforms, while the new album is available for pre-order.
For listeners of BluesWave Radio, Bywater Call are exactly the kind of band that deserves attention: deeply rooted in blues and soul, but never trapped by tradition. Their sound moves confidently between Southern soul, roots rock, blues, R&B, gospel-fired energy and the kind of full-band dynamics that only come from serious live experience.
Fronted by the remarkable voice of Meghan Parnell and driven by guitarist Dave Barnes, Bywater Call have built a reputation as a powerful seven-piece outfit from Toronto, Canada. The band also features Bruce McCarthy on drums, Mike Meusel on bass, Andrew Moljgun on keys, Stephen Dyte on trumpet and Julian Nalli on tenor sax.
Their new single “No One Else” is described as a bombastic retro-soul track, inspired by artists such as Black Pumas, Baby Huey, Alabama Shakes and even a touch of Rage Against the Machine. It is built on an infectious rhythm, atmospheric keyboards and an explosive horn section, giving the song both vintage warmth and modern force.
Lyrically, “No One Else” works as a rejection of manipulation, deceit and control. Dave Barnes explains that the song reflects a world shaped by misinformation and dishonesty, while also pointing toward personal strength and responsibility. It is not just a groove-driven soul-rock track; it is a statement about reclaiming power from those who try to mislead or exploit.
The official video for “No One Else” continues that theme visually. Choreographed and directed by Chelsea Preston and filmed by Badee Mirkham, it uses fire and paper masks as symbols of cultural tension, manipulation and human fragility. The result is a striking visual companion to one of the band’s most direct and urgent songs.
The forthcoming album Broken Souvenirs features 11 original songs and appears to push Bywater Call even further beyond strict genre boundaries. According to the press material, the record travels from feel-good retro soul and intimate acoustic moments to contemporary R&B and driving roots rock, with influences ranging from Amy Winehouse and Shakey Graves to The Black Crowes.
This new chapter follows a period of major momentum for the band. Their 2024 album Shepherd received strong international attention and was selected by Classic Rock as a leading blues release of the year, while the band’s reputation as a live act has continued to grow across Europe, the UK and North America.
Bywater Call were also named among the finalists for International Artist of the Year at the 2026 UK Blues Awards, placing them alongside names such as Joanne Shaw Taylor, The Boneshakers, Muireann Bradley and Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast.
What makes Bywater Call stand out is not simply the strength of Meghan Parnell’s voice, the punch of the horn section or the Southern-rock fire of the guitar work. It is the way the band sounds like a complete unit: emotional, muscular, soulful and fully committed. There is a classic quality in their music, but it never feels like nostalgia. Instead, Bywater Call take the language of blues, soul and roots rock and speak it in the present tense.
With “No One Else”, the band give us a powerful first taste of Broken Souvenirs: big vocals, deep groove, sharp social commentary and a sound that feels both old-school and immediate. If this single is any indication of what is coming, Broken Souvenirs could become one of the essential blues, soul and roots-rock releases of 2026.
For BluesWave Radio listeners, this is a band to keep close. Bywater Call are not just revisiting the spirit of classic soul and blues-rock; they are carrying it forward with confidence, fire and their own unmistakable voice.
