Zucchero – Live At The Kremlin is the first live album by Italian singer Zucchero Fornaciari, released on 4 November 1991 by Polydor.

Although not originally planned, the set-box included a double live LP and a VHS tape, representing in fact the artist’s first live work, from his Gold, Incense and Beer tour, as well as his self-titled album Oro, Incenso e Beer, culminating in his double stop at the Moscow Kremlin, in the Congress Hall. The second concert on 9 December 1990 was broadcast live worldwide by Rai Due. The VHS tape was released on 4 November 1991 at the same time as the LP and was reissued on DVD in 2005. The concert was recorded and mixed by Maurizio Maggi and released complete without any intervention or technical correction.

As he wrote in his autobiography entitled “The Sound of Sunday – The Novel of My Life”, Zucchero gave the concert under a severe panic attack. Nevertheless, the performance, the first by a Western artist in the Soviet Union after the fall of the Berlin Wall, was a success. Among the guests on stage were Randy Crawford, who duetted with Zucchero “Come Il Sole” in a sudden and unprecedented English performance, and John Lennon’s “Imagine”, dedicated to the famous musician on the tenth anniversary of his death. Then appears Toni Childs, with whom Zucchero sings “Many Rivers To Cross”, and Jurij Kasparjan, guitarist of Kino, a historic Soviet rock band, who took part in the concert with his guitar along with Andrea Braido. Finally, it is worth mentioning the contribution of singer Lisa Hunt, who accompanied the songs with her soulful vocals and stood out above all in the performance of Madre Dolcissima. During the concert, as foreseen by the Soviet custom, there was no applause, but at the end the audience applauded standing for 20 minutes.

In November 1991 and then the following year, Zucchero released, as a promotional single for the release of the album, the unreleased studio “Anytime”, written by the artist to celebrate this particular concert, almost a year earlier. Zucchero, on the occasion of the international press conference for the presentation of the album, returned to Moscow, where in a special television show for the Soviet state network, he gave an interview with himself performing “Anytime”, with his voice and guitar, on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater.

Through this historic live album I select “Senza Una Donna”.
